Meet Hawksbill Mango and Pineapple!
News – 10 Sept 2021
Spiced rum just hatched...
Here at Hawksbill Rum, we're continuing our conservation and sustainability mission with the addition of two new rums to our Caribbean Spiced Rum range.
Our new Mango and Pineapple flavours have been crafted with fruits that would have otherwise gone to waste, in line with Zero Waste Week’s mission, which is making positive changes to help reduce the landfill waste humans produce. Unfortunately, food waste is a huge issue across the globe and UK households waste 6.5 million tonnes of it every year, 4.5 million of which is completely edible! Wasting food is proven to feed climate change and therefore fuelling the negative impact on our planet and its wildlife, which is why when launching our new fruit flavours, Team Hawksbill wanted to tackle this issue head on.
Climate change is causing lasting damage to the ocean and rising sea temperatures which is killing coral reefs. Coral reefs are relied on by our favourite creature, the Hawksbill turtle, to provide food, which is why our rum gives back by supporting conservation projects in the Caribbean that do some amazing work to help protect the Hawksbill turtle and preserve its future.
The Hawksbill turtle is critically endangered – the population could be as low as 57,000 with fewer than 20,000 nesting females – so we're determined to do its part to save the species from extinction. Along with 10% of profits from every bottle sold being donated to the Barbados Sea Turtle Project and using fruits that would have otherwise gone to waste in its latest rums, we also use eco-friendly packaging. Our bottle is made from sustainable and recyclable materials, the cork made from waste material and the sugarcane fibre label is printed with plant-based inks.
